Travalyst’s Five-Year Anniversary

Sep. 2024

This evening, the Duke of Sussex celebrated the five-year anniversary of Travalyst, an initiative dedicated to transforming the travel industry toward greater sustainability. Held during Climate Week, this gathering was a momentous occasion to celebrate Travalyst’s achievements, forge new connections, and raise awareness of its vital mission.

In his speech, the Duke expressed heartfelt gratitude to the partners and supporters who have contributed to Travalyst’s journey thus far. He spoke passionately about the remarkable power of travel and tourism to broaden our horizons, expose us to diverse cultures, and foster connections within our global community and underscored that with this privilege comes a profound responsibility: as we explore the world, we must remain vigilant about the impact our journeys have on the environments and communities we engage with.

“I’ve seen firsthand how travel and tourism can be a double-edged sword, both a force that has the potential to do tremendous good, or if mismanaged, inflict significant harm. These experiences, as well as years of conversation and debate around campfires with experts that I’m proud to call friends, have shaped my understanding of the critical bond between people, wildlife, and the environment we share.”

A notable highlight of the gathering was a panel discussion featuring Travalyst partners who explored the importance of collaboration in accelerating sustainability goals. The dialogue addressed the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and emphasized the critical need for unified data standards to build trust and transparency across the travel industry.

The future of travel must be grounded in sustainability, ensuring that we protect the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the places we visit. The Duke’s presence today reaffirmed his commitment to this cause and the collective efforts needed to create a more responsible travel ecosystem.

“Together, we are proving that travel can be a force for good. Good for business, and essential for the people and the planet we all share.”
