Strengthening Futures in Johannesburg
Oct. 2024
This evening, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, attended a private panel discussion and dinner in Johannesburg hosted by Sentebale. The event brought together influential figures, including Chair Dr. Sophie Chandauka MBE, political advisor George Sibotshiwe, and key figures from leading corporate foundations.
This gathering reinforced Sentebale’s dedication to improving the lives of young people in Southern Africa. Building on the momentum of the Miami event earlier this year, where Sentebale collaborated with LEBEC, a women-led innovative finance and philanthropy firm, the focus was on the importance of catalytic giving and strategic partnerships.
Panelists, including Hector Mujica from Google.org, Sam Stephens of the AB InBev Foundation, and Stacey Boyd of Olivela, shared valuable insights on how collaboration can amplify our impact on youth and increase opportunity for all. Their combined expertise emphasized the need to forge connections between corporate and non-profit sectors to create sustainable change.
Prince Harry said, “I’ve made it one of my life’s missions to create a platform for young voices, and we have seen time and time again that young voices, when they are listened to, have the solutions” underscoring the critical importance of youth involvement to deliver tangible results.
Sentebale empowers youth through targeted interventions that enhance their well-being and success. Their life skills training fosters confidence, while inclusive health services provide vital mental and physical support. By promoting environmental awareness and offering holistic care for youth living with HIV/AIDS, Sentebale assists families in navigating challenges. Additionally, their vocational training and entrepreneurship programs specifically empower young women, paving the way for equitable career opportunities.
The discussions held tonight are essential as we seek innovative solutions to the challenges facing youth in Southern Africa. By partnering with corporate allies and philanthropic organizations, we can amplify our impact and create a brighter future for generations to come.
