Championing Young Lives

Today, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex attended a series of impactful events in the Leribe region of Lesotho, focusing on Sentebale’s vital work in supporting children and young adults. Accompanied by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and Dr. Sophie Chandauka MBE, Board Chair of Sentebale, the Duke engaged with local communities, health professionals, and innovative international funders to witness firsthand the transformative programs making a difference in the region.

The day began with a visit to the Pointmain Health Facility, where the Duke met with dedicated doctors and clinicians involved in Sentebale. This initiative plays a crucial role in providing healthcare and support to children and young adults in Leribe, underscoring the importance of accessible medical services in fostering healthy futures.

Later, the Duke met with a group of adolescent girls and young women participating in Sentebale’s Socio-economic Strengthening programs. These young women, who have completed vocational training in dressmaking and hairstyling, proudly showcased their skills and entrepreneurial spirit. Many have successfully started their own small businesses, exemplifying the positive impact of training and job placement initiatives on economic empowerment.

The day continued with a visit to Matlameng – Ha Mahlehle, where the Duke and his fellow patrons explored a climate resilience project in action. Community members gathered to share their stories and perform, celebrating their cultural heritage and resilience. This gathering provided an opportunity for the Duke and the visiting international leaders to engage with the community and learn more about the innovative approaches being implemented to combat climate change and support sustainable livelihoods.

Through these events, the Duke highlighted the importance of collaboration between local communities, healthcare professionals, and global partners in fostering progress. Sentebale’s work in the Leribe region continues to empower young individuals and address pressing socio-economic challenges, paving the way for a brighter future.
